Legenda Hidup Yang Nggak Mati, The Rolling Stones

Iya, The Rolling Stones. Siapa yang tak kenal mereka? Band rock asal "The Three Lions" ini berdiri pada tahun 1962 di London dan mulai berani mengibarkan benderanya pada Januari 1963. Band ini juga ternyata masuk ke dalam bagian British Invasion (istilah yang digunakan warga Amerika Serikat untuk menggambarkan banyaknya penyanyi rock, pop dan band asal Inggris Raya yang populer di Amerika Serikat selama tahun 1960an-1980an).

Band ini dibentuk oleh dua teman sekolah (Mick Jagger dan Keith Richard) di Dartford, Kent. Pertemuan dimulai ketika mereka bertemu di stasiun kereta api Dartford. Disana mereka membicarakan banyak hal, lalu Keith bilang kalau Mick itu cocok membawakan lagu Blues dan akhirnya mereka membentuk band dengan ditambah dua personil lainnya. Mereka memberikan warna bandnya dengan aliran musik Rock n' Roll.

Awal pertama kali dibentuk, mereka berformasi Dick Taylor (bass), Mick Avory (drums), Keith Richards (lead guitar, harmonica), Mick Jagger (vokal, harmonica) dan Brian Jones (rhythm guitar dan harmonica). Sayang, beberapa minggu setelahnya Dick Taylor memilih buat band baru dengan nama "The Pretty Things" dan Mick Avory bergabung dengan "The Kinks".

Dengan tersisa 3 orang, putus asa nggak datang begitu saja, Keith, Jagger dan Brian mencari tambahan personil dan mendapatkan Ian, Charlie dan Bill. Saat itu Mick Jagger sebagai vokal dan harmonika, Keith Richards sebagai lead guitar dan harmonica, Brian Jones menjadi Rhythm Guitar dan harmonica, Ian Stewart memegang keyboard, Charlie Watts di posisi drum dan Bill Wayman memainkan bass.

Dengan hormat Ian harus keluar dari band karena ada sumber lain yang menyatakan kalau kelompok band dengan 6 personil akan sulit dikenal satu persatu oleh penggemar dibanding 4-5 personil. Hingga tahun 1969 peran Brian untuk band terus menurun, nggak hanya turun, dia pun pernah tersandung hukum dan akhirnya mengundurkan diri dengan hormat. Posisi Brian digantikan oleh Mick Taylor tapi hanya sampai tahun 1974 dan Ronnie Wood masuk menggantikannya. 1992 Bill Wyman mengundurkan diri lalu Darryl Jones mengisi "kekosongan" bass tapi tidak masuk ke formasi band sepenuhnya.

Semenjak itu sampai artikel ini diterbitkan sepertinya mereka akan terus bersama, terbukti dengan pernyataan dari gitarisnya, Keith Richards pada salah satu majalah (online):
"Bukan benar-benar band jika mereka tidak bertahan lama, mereka adalah grup. Kami adalah band dan sebuah band yang bersama hingga mati. Sejumlah band, mereka menjadi besar, tapi hanya pada generasi mereka, hanya untuk satu dekade. Mereka benar-benar pergi ketika testosterone mereka pergi".
